September 24th: Franklin Ghost Town Site -- near Black Diamond
"Franklin was a coal mining town in the late 1800's, in about 1880 there was a cave in that killed 47 miners which was virtually all of the working miners at the time, the families of the victims just moved away and the town dried up after that as far as I can tell." Submitted by: Brian Brandon
We will visit their old cemetery, hidden in the forest. Along the way we'll see old cement foundations, metal work, including an old coal cart. Approx. 3miles round trip
We will stop at Black Diamond Bakery on the return drive back, for lunch, coffee, and or their great pie and pastries.
