Walk
for Your Life
The
Walk for Your Life
program was started when one of our members was told he had to walk to
improve his heart condition, general health and fitness, or he
would not have long to live. That is why the program is called "Walk
for Your Life". Walking exercise is one of the best ways to improve your health and fitness! Join us for a social
outing and enjoy local parks and forest trails. Start your health and
fitness program with us.
The cost for riders is
based upon 6 cents a mile round trip from the Federal Way
Senior Center. You need to have a good pair of
walking/hiking shoes and be dressed for the forecasted weather. If you
would like to see photos from some our our walks and hikes, click
here; the links are on
the left side of the screen.
Rating Scale: Level
1
is an easy two-hour walk on good trails with very little elevation
gain, while
Level 2
is a more difficult two-hour walk with up to 300 foot altitude
gain/loss.
Level 3
is an even more difficult two-hour walk which can be five miles long
and have a 500-foot elevation gain on
woodland trails
with hills and irregular surfaces. We recommend you start on
your walking program on Level 1 ratings until you are comfortable with these hikes,
which last about two hours and normally cover three to four miles.
WE LEAVE AT 9:00 AM
TUESDAY MORNINGS unless otherwise noted, so be there 15 minutes
earlier to sign-in and be assigned to one of the drivers! Be sure you
have walking shoes and appropriate clothing for the forecasted
weather. We will not walk if it is icy or snows! The cost for riders
is based on AAA information gathered at
Fuel Gauge Report,
using Tacoma as the starting point. Join our friendly
group and improve your health and fitness at the same time.
Photos: For those of you with Internet access, a web page with
photos of the walks and hikes is available
