Walk For Your Life Program

Our Walk for Your Life program was started when one of our members was told he had to walk to improve his heart condition, general health and fitness or he would not have long to live. Walking is one of the best ways to improve your health! Join us for a social outing and enjoy local parks and forest trails while you improve your fitness at the same time. All you need is a good pair of walking/hiking shoes and appropriate attire for the weather.

WE LEAVE AT 9:00 AM TUESDAY MORNINGS from the Federal Way Senior Center unless otherwise noted, so be there 15 minutes earlier to sign-in and be assigned to one of the drivers. Be sure you have walking shoes and appropriate clothing for the forecasted weather. We walk rain or shine (but not in icy or snowy conditions)! Call us at 253-838-3604 if in doubt.
Cost is based on round-trip mileage divided by 6.4 mpg for the Senior Center van, times the price of gas, times the number of vehicles, divided by the number of passengers. Estimate is based upon one van and six passengers. We don’t go if it has snowed, is icy or the schools are closed.
IF YOU ARE NEW TO THE PROGRAM, you must complete a trip/medical waiver form. Download the form here and bring a completed copy to the center.

Walk Ratings
Rating Scale: A walk rated at Level 1 is an easy paved three or four mile walk over a two-hour time; a rating of Level 2 has a more uneven path and some elevation change; and, a Level 3 rating has several hundred feet of elevation gain and a more uneven trail surface. We recommend you start on your walking program on Level 1 ratings until you are comfortable with these hikes, which last about two hours and normally cover three-four miles.
Drivers Wanted!

We need backup volunteer van drivers for Tuesday Walks (year-around. Drivers will have the benefit of not having to pay to attend outings; however, we cannot afford to pay drivers for their services at this time.
